Air Travel
Africa is a vast continent, the second largest landmass on earth and, despite the way the press describes this diverse and many splendoured
continent, comparatively thinly populated. Hence, travel to and from and particularly inside Africa can be equally diverse. Air travel can
be expensive because, apart from the South Africa run, airline companies often have little competition on African routes and claim that it
is harder to make profits on their Africa routes. A regular traveller on any Europe-Africa route would find this hard to believe, however.
It is probably fair to say that as far as the world's main carriers are concerned, the routes they pick are related just to where the
biggest returns exist or to old colonial ties. The AIC would like to promote Africa's own airlines first and foremost. These are Air
Algérie,
Air Botswana,
Cameroon Airlines,
EgyptAir,
Ethiopian Airlines,
Gambia International Airlines,
Ghana Airways,
Kenya Airways,
Air Madagascar,
Royal Air Maroc,
Air Mauritius,
Air Namibia,
Air Senegal,
South African Airways, and
Air Zimbabwe
