There are a variety of sources for information on the weather in
Africa, some more informative than others. In all cases, much depends on the accuracy and flow of statistics
from the various reporting stations, which can be variable. That said, here is a list of sources that, together, provide
a reasonably thorough account of weather conditions throughout the African continent
- Accuweather
Great satellite image and detailed forecasts for hundreds of weather staions scattered across the African continent

US National Weather Service - Internet Weather Source
Provides a range of up to the minute statistical data and a 24-hour history from a wide range of
locations across Africa. Factual data includes wind speed, visibility, ground temperature, dew point, relative humidity and
barometric pressure. Scroll down the country list, click on 'Display Observing Locations' highlight the country of your
choice then hit the 'Display Conditions' button
- BBC Weather Centre The BBC site provides a
good weather map although the scale is rather large. Individual location reports with 5-day forecasts are also provided
although the selection of reporting locations is not as large as say Weather Underground's. Overall, this site is plagued by
large file sizes and resultant slow download times for anyone not accessing the Net through a wideband facility.
- CNN.com/Weather
Provides a 5-day forecast for a selection
of African cities listed by country. A recent satellite map is also provided on the main Africa page linked to here.
- South African Weather Service - Very thorough service for the RSA including maritime and aviation forecasts
- The Weather Underground
Contains probably the
largest selection of reporting locations in Africa. Statistics include times of sunrise, sunset and moon phase.
Also provides good Africamaps featuring temperature, visibility, humidity, wind, heat index and dewpoint. Scroll down the
screen to click on a country and then the reporting station.
- Weather.com Good
range of reporting locations but less data than with the other links featured here.
- Zimbabwe Meteorological Department An excellent weather site for Zimbabwe
containing links to maps and forecasts and a little background about Zim's climate
- Yahoo Weather - click on the African country of your choice for basic weather info
