enda is a many faceted development organisation with headquarters in Dakar, Senegal dedicated to development, particularly in Africa but also in South America and Asia with a strong emphasis on human rights, the effective participation of local communities and a bottom-up approach to development initiatives. Twenty-four thematic teams work on different but related aspects of environment and development ranging from urban initiatives to energy and gender. The scope is wide but the mission agenda remains focussed.

enda's stated aims are:

'to work with grassroots groups on the basis of their needs and objectives';

'to contribute to the search for alternative development possibilities at all levels as well as to the various kinds of training programmes which will make this development possible'; and

'to contribute to intellectual and trained personnel's involvement in the setting up and implementation of development programmes in the service of the largest number of people possible'.
