The self-declared Republic of Somaliland proclaimed itself independent from Somalia on 18th May 1991. The self-declared republic has a government, an army, a national flag and an anthem. It even has its own currency. But in the decade that has passed, Somaliland has been unable to secure international recognition as an independent state.
